England drawn against Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica in 2014 World Cup
Roy Hodgson’s team have been handed a tough World Cup group draw, starting with a match against Italy in hot conditions
December 6th, 2013
England will begin their 2014 World Cup campaign on 14 June when they play Italy in the Arena Amazônia, while the Three Lions will be up against Uruguay and Costa Rica as they attempt to make it a successful tournament in Brazil.
Hodgson will not be pleased that England have to cope with the hot temperatures in the Amazon rain forest, although a final match against the Costa Ricans in Belo Horizonte could play in their favour.
Hosts Brazil have been drawn with Croatia, Mexico and Cameroon for what should be an entertaining Group A, while Spain, Netherlands and Chile comprise a tricky Group B, especially for Australia who are the other team in that section.
Colombia will feel pleased with Group C considering their opponents will be Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan, with England potentially facing one of these four sides at the last sixteen stage providing they make it through the group stage.
Group E looks to be wide open, with France and Switzerland joined by Ecuador and Honduras, while Argentina will be relatively happy with Group F which will see them up against Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria.
Germany are in Group G and it looks a tough assignment considering that Portugal, Ghana and the United States will also battle it out for a place in the last sixteen, while Belgium have got a group that includes Algeria, Russia and South Korea.
England’s first match of the 2014 World Cup takes place on 14 June against Italy, while the tournament will start on 12 June when Brazil face Croatia.
