Chelsea supporters will be delighted to hear that Didier Drogba is close to a return to the London club, with the striker set to sign a one-year deal that will bolster the Blues’ attacking options.
The 36-year-old enjoyed a hugely successful first stint at Stamford Bridge between 2004 and 2012, winning the Premier League title on three occasions and his final act was to help Chelsea claim a famous Champions League victory against Bayern Munich.
Following a short spell with Shanghai Shenhua, Drogba wound his way to Galatasaray although reports in the French media suggest that the Ivory Coast international has been persuaded to re-united with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.
Drogba will then be offered a coaching role at Stamford Bridge following his playing days, with the forward currently a free agent after a relatively successful spell in Turkey which saw him line up against Chelsea last term in the Champions League.
Demba Ba left for Turkish club Besiktas last week and it appears that Fernando Torres could also move on in the summer, meaning that Drogba joins Diego Costa and Romeleu Lukaku as part of the attacking options at Chelsea.
Meanwhile, it appears that Frank Lampard will sign for New York City FC this week despite the club not able to start competing in the American league until March 2015.
