Derby County 1 Blackburn Rovers 1 – Best snatches late equaliser
The final Championship match of the opening weekend saw Derby and Blackburn share the points at Pride Park, with the visitors leaving it late to grab a draw.

Johnny Russell’s penalty on the stroke of half-time looked as though it would be enough to see the Rams start their season with three points, although Best was on hand to delight the visiting supporters and it was the least that Rovers deserved.
Indeed, manager Gary Bowyer felt as though three points wouldn’t have flattered Blackburn who dominated for large parts of the match, with Best’s goal a spectacular scissor kick after several of his team-mates had gone close to scoring throughout the ninety minutes.
However, it was Derby who led at the break, with Alex Marrow inexplicably handballing when Jamie Ward had sent a free-kick into the penalty area. County new signing Russell slotted home the spot kick, while Chris Martin nearly doubled the home side’s lead before half-time.
Ruben Rochina was stretchered off moments before the opening goal and it took Blackburn a while to recover from the departure of the player, although substitute Best showed manager Bowyer that he was deserving of a first-team place after a smart finish.
