Demba Ba reveals he was close to signing for Arsenal
The Gunners broke the bank to land Mesut Ozil on transfer deadline day, although it appears they also came close to landing the signature of Demba Ba.

Arsenal were clearly keen to strengthen their forward line for the remainder of the season, with Ba apparently keen to switch from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates, although Jose Mourinho instead allowed Romelu Lukaku to sign for Everton on a season-long loan.
Ba will now compete with Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o for the forward positions, with the former Newcastle player expressing his commitment to Chelsea and hoping to demonstrate to his new manager that he can help to deliver silverware.
“I was ready to go and to play there (at Arsenal), but it didn’t happen,” Ba said.
“I think I’m a good professional, and I’ve always worked hard to deserve what I have. Until today I will keep doing the same.
“I told him (Mourinho) if I stay I will keep fighting for the club and for the side. That’s it.
“Now what matters is the next months, the next years with Chelsea and that’s it.”
Ba was an impressive performer at Newcastle which saw Chelsea swoop for the Senegal forward in January, although Mourinho clearly regards the player as no more than a fringe member of the squad.
Chelsea appear to be playing one striker in attack and Eto’o was the chosen forward when the team lost 1-0 at Everton, although Ba is prepared to wait for his chance.
“I wanted to play and I want to play,” Ba added.
“It all depends on me and it depends on the performance I’m going to put on the pitch.
“If I play good, I think I will deserve to play and the manager will put me on the pitch, because that’s how he is. If I don’t perform it will be only my fault.”
