David Moyes handed tough Manchester United opening fixtures
The 2013/14 Premier League fixtures have been released and David Moyes will have had a wry smile after scanning Manchester United’s opening games.
June 19th, 2013
The Red Devils begin their title defence with a trip to the Liberty Stadium, while matches against Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City take place during their first five games.
It means that Moyes will go head-to-head with Jose Mourinho for the second match of the campaign when the Blues visit Old Trafford, the scene of the former Porto manager famously racing down the touchline when his team beat United in the Champions League.
Chelsea kick things off with a home match against Hull City which will please Mourinho, while Manchester City will also have home comforts when they entertain Newcastle United, with the Magpies having recently installed Joe Kinnear as Director of Football.
Manuel Pellegrini will be pleased that his new team have their first match at the Etihad Stadium, while City then travel to newly-promoted Cardiff before a home match against Hull.
Arsenal start off proceedings against Aston Villa, while the Midlands side also face Liverpool and Chelsea in their opening three games.
Crystal Palace will enjoy a London derby on the opening day of the season, while Cardiff face West Ham United at Upton Park before back-to-back home games against Man City and Everton.
