With Raheem Sterling having finally completed a move from Liverpool to Manchester City, the David de Gea transfer saga between Manchester United and Real Madrid has taken centre stage.
It appears likely that the Spaniard will make the switch to the Bernabeu before the transfer window closes, with Louis van Gaal deciding against fielding De Gea against Tottenham on Saturday as the transfer speculation continues.
It would seem that United and Real are at an impasse at the moment when it comes to the player returning to Spain, with Van Gaal deciding the best thing for the team is to leave out a player who had an outstanding season between the sticks last term.
“He shall not play,” the manager said. “A human being is more than just a player and he cannot manage.
“I cannot lead this process, I can only watch and observe and that is what I’m doing. I’m not participating in that process.”
The move to Real Madrid doesn’t appear cut and dried, with De Gea 1/3 with betfair to leave for the Bernabeu although if no deal is agreed, then the Spanish keeper will continue for the Red Devils.
Van Gaal will hope to enjoy his services for at least one more season, with Cristiano Ronaldo having previously agreed with Sir Alex Ferguson that he would remain at Old Trafford for a further season before completing a move to Real Madrid.
