Chelsea set to pinch Willian despite Tottenham medical
Do Chelsea need another attacking midfielder in their squad? Apparently so, according to the latest reports, with Jose Mourinho keen to recruit Willian for the princely sum of £32m.

It had appeared that the Brazilian was headed for Tottenham Hotspur, with the Anzhi Makhachkala player having a medical at White Hart Lane, although Chelsea are set to swoop for Willian’s signature.
“I think he’s already made his decision,” Mourinho said. When asked if that was Chelsea, he nodded in the affirmative. He added: “I don’t like to speak before time because football can be crazy. I know what the player wants, so in this moment we cannot hide. That is a possibility.
“That’s the danger of medicals before contracts,” Mourinho said of Willian. “You have to do the medical before, but the best thing to do is to do the medical in secret. If the player is fine, you can sign him. If the player is not fine you don’t destroy his career.”
Tottenham missing out on Willian means the club might be prepared to slow the sale of Gareth Bale, with chairman Daniel Levy believing that the Brazilian would be an effective replacement for the former.
It raises questions over the future of Juan Mata at Chelsea considering there was already fierce competition for places without Willian muddying the waters. Perhaps a swap deal could take place with Wayne Rooney, a move that could benefit Manchester United.
