Chelsea 0 Swansea City 2 – Michu strikes again for Swans

This result wasn’t on the cards. Chelsea were supposed to cruise into a first leg lead at Stamford Bridge after spanking Southampton 5-1 at the weekend, although Swansea arrived with a game plan and claimed a two-goal victory against a team who were largely toothless in attack.

Michael Laudrup dropped Danny Graham for this encounter and played Michu as the lone striker, with the Swansea forward feeding off scraps although City were strong in the tackle and rode their luck when required before taking the lead just before half-time.

Branislav Ivanovic was caught in possession and the ball found its way to Michu who was able to beat Ross Turnbull from a tight angle to put the visitors into the lead.

Chelsea continued to toil in the second half and simply ran out of ideas against a Swans team determined to meet Aston Villa or Bradford City in the Capital One Cup final.

Frank Lampard was introduced midway through the second half but failed to make the required impact and perhaps Demba Ba should have been given longer after nearly winning a penalty just before Swansea doubled their lead.

Ivanovic was once again the culprit and failed to spot Danny Graham when attempting a back pass, with the substitute capitalising on the loose ball and going round Turnbull before making it 2-0.

Is there any way back for Chelsea?

Thank you for the headline. ‘Michu strikes again for Swansea’ you are the only report to give Swansea credit for their win.
We, Swans fans, are used teams losing against us rather than us winning and it does grate from time to time.
The second leg will be a new situation which may or may not see us getting to the final, but tonight we won 2 – 0.
