Celtic v Malmo tips – Goals at a premium at Celtic Park tonight
The Scottish champions have one foot in the Champions League group stages. Can they put their second foot in?
August 19th, 2015
The Hoops are at home in the first leg of a Champions League match for the third successive time this season and they will be confident of moving ever closer to the lucrative group stages of the competition.
Their confidence will stem from their opening two European outings, Ronny Deila’s men brushing aside Icelandic outfit Stjarnan with relative ease in their opening game followed by a narrow 1-0 aggregate win over Qarabag in the following qualifying round.
It won’t be easy tonight however, Malmo heading to the east-end of Glasgow looking to hold their hosts to a low-scoring result. Indeed, the Swedish side are particularly adept at overturning any deficit at home although they will be expected to effectively park the bus in front of their goal this evening.
All of this leads us to believe that it won’t be ‘goals galore’ in this clash. It won’t be the one-sided affair that the bookies would have us believe either. Celtic may be 4/6 odds-on favourites but they will be facing a Malmo side which will be in high spirits following their 3-0 victory over Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in the last round of the competition.
With this in mind, we’re being somewhat cautious about backing anyone to score tonight and we feel that backing a goal shortage in this first leg could be the way forward.
