10,000 Middlesbrough fans saw their team win at Old Trafford on penalties, with Aitor Karanka’s team now facing Everton for a place in the semi-finals.

Boro held one of the best teams in England throughout the 120 minutes before eliminating the Red Devils on spot kicks and will fancy their chances of another scalp when Everton head to the Riverside Stadium.

Manchester City had no such problems progressing to the quarter finals, with a 5-1 win over Crystal Palace earning the Premier League leaders a home tie against Championship side Hull City and they are now the strong favourites to win the competition.

Liverpool scraped past Bournemouth and will now head to St Mary’s for a match against Southampton, while Stoke are up against a Sheffield Wednesday team who have eliminated Newcastle and Arsenal to reach this stage.

Manchester City are clearly intent on winning the competition, having fielded a strong team against the Eagles. Kevin de Bruyne and Yaya Toure were among those players involved, with the first team continuing to score a bucketload of goals at home.
