Goals from Raheem Sterling, Steven Gerrard and Alberto Moreno ensured that Liverpool repeated last season’s victory at White Hart Lane, with Brendan Rodgers delighted by the performance against Tottenham.
The Reds might have suffered a 3-1 reverse at the Etihad Stadium on Monday although they showed no ill-effects as Sterling put them into an early lead after good work from Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson.
A Gerrard penalty was followed up by a stunning goal from Moreno, with Rodgers claiming that the team had picked up the baton from last season which saw them come close to winning the Premier League title.
We were excellent,” Rodgers told reporters. “It was a brilliant win at a difficult place to come. It was a great win for us, two out of three now, and I’m reasonably happy.
“They have started well and Mauricio [Pochettino] is an excellent coach; given a bit of time to get a philosophy in place, he’ll do very well here.
“We have risen to every challenge since we have been here. It was the same last year – will we score enough goals and how can we improve?
“The beauty of this group is that they’re very hungry. We lost the game the other night and the last 10 minutes sort of petered away from us; we played with 10 men and didn’t have the impact we would have liked in the final part of the game.
“So we lost the game and then we come to a team that has started well, having won two league games. We showed today that we’re a very good side.
“We played very well and probably clicked back into where we were last season – which was great to see. Hopefully people enjoyed watching us as well.”
