Barkley for England!
While our attention may have been grabbed by what went down at Old Trafford last night, those of us baying for Moyes-coloured blood may have missed what turned out to be a potential goal of the season by an Everton youngster who has raised a lot of eyebrows – including Woy’s.

Toffees midfielder Ross Barkley staked his claim on a seat on the…hovercraft…to Brazil this summer with a daring raid into the Newcastle box from in his own half to put Everton 1-0 up last night, and his three England caps could well become more during the World Cup if manager Roberto Martinez has anything to say about it.
“I know that Ross Barkley will be a phenomenal footballer for England,” Martinez gushed. “But the timing has to be measured by the England manager. We all have to respect that.
“If the national team manager believes he needs Ross, he will be ready; if not, he will have a good summer.”
Praise indeed for the Everton man who was also compared to another England great.
“Sometimes he does things that remind you of Michael Ballack; at times it’s Paul Gascoigne.
“Technically, he is as gifted as you are going to see. But what shocks you is the physicality that goes with it.”
Barkley’s physical game has both aided and abetted Everton at times, who remain fully invested in the chase for fourth spot in the Premier League following their highest away win this season against a Newcastle side whose manager Alan Pardew has now completed his three-match stadium ban for the incident against Hull.
Even Europa League football would serve as a great showcase for Everton, and could lead on to even better things if the raw quality of Barkley is anything to go by.
