Luis Suarez has almost certainly played his last game for Liverpool, with The Guardian reporting that Barcelona are readying a £70m bid for the Uruguayan striker.
Suarez is the number one transfer target for Barca who have not been put off the player despite receiving a four-month ban from Fifa following the biting incident at the 2014 World Cup.
On the contrary, the Spanish club have praised the fact that Suarez showed remorse over the affair and now hope to snap up last season’s Premier League top scorer for a fee in the region of £70m.
Liverpool retain hopes of signing Alexis Sanchez as part of the deal, although the Chilean hasn’t been included in Barcelona’s first offer which consists of £70m in cash for the services of Suarez.
Quite where that would leave Sanchez is another matter, considering that Lionel Messi and Neymar are also vying for positions in the team.
The £70m fee is £10m lower than the initial Liverpool valuation although for a starting offer it appears to be along the right lines when it comes to securing the signature of a player who will not be able to feature for the Catalan club until November.
Negotiations are set to continue over the next few days, with a Liverpool source saying: “The talks were productive. There were sensible expectations on both sides and there will be further discussions to take place. But nothing is finalised as of now.”
