Barcelona and Bayern Munich drawn together in Champions League
Pep Guardiola returns to the Nou Camp for a mouth-watering Champions League semi-final tie
April 24th, 2015
Bayern Munich’s reward for thrashing Porto 6-1 is a semi-final tie against Barcelona, with the two Champions League favourites meeting over two legs.
The draw was unfavourable to the teams who will have been secretly hoping for Juventus, with Real Madrid being pitched against the champions of Italy in the other semi-final.
Pep Guardiola guided Barcelona to a Champions League triumph and will be hoping to do the same with Bayern this season, with the Bavarian side having lost to Real Madrid in the semi-final last season.
The first legs will be played on Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 May, with the return legs being played on Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 May. The final will take place at Berlin’s Olympiastadion on Saturday 6 June. The draw leaves open the possibility of a first ever Barcelona v Real Madrid final.
The bookies are finding it hard to split Barcelona and Bayern when it comes to qualifying for the final, although Real Madrid’s odds on the outright market have gone from 4/1 to 2/1.
Real are the holders and will welcome back Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale to the team for the double header against a Juventus side that made hard work of beating Monaco over two legs.
