Aston Villa next manager odds – Remi Garde still odds-on for the job
Remi Garde is favourite for the vacant position but may reject any offer if he fails to bring his own backroom team
October 27th, 2015
Aston Villa have now formally approached Remi Garde regarding replacing recently-sacked Tim Sherwood as boss of the West Midlands side and reports would suggest that the Frenchman is definitely interested in the position.
Nevertheless any appointment is far from certain following suggestions that Garde wouldn’t be keen on any job unless he was allowed to bring with him his own backroom staff. Understandably this poses a few problems for Villa, especially so given that Garde’s choice of assistant is Gerald Baticle with whom he worked alongside when in the hot-seat at French side Lyon, the latter side refusing to let him discuss terms with any other side.
It has been reported that Lyon are adamant that this will be the case and rejected advances by struggling Premier League side Newcastle United to sign Baticle during the summer months. This is believed to have been the reason behind Garde turning down the vacant position at St James’ Park and it remains a possibility that Villa may experience similar problems.
This news has resulted in Garde’s odds on being appointed at Villa Park lengthening somewhat from as short as 1/5 at the weekend to best odds of 8/13. He is still firm favourite for the role but other contenders are closing in and Villa will need to keep their options open in case negotiations break down with the 49-year-old.
David Moyes is now on offer at 6/1 with Gus Poyet receiving some market support at a price of 8/1.
