Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 4 – Bale hat-trick helps hammer Villans
Paul Lambert looked to have Aston Villa going in the right direction after a recent 3-1 away to Liverpool although the wheels have fallen back off at Villa Park after an 8-0 thrashing at Stamford Bridge was followed by a 4-0 home defeat against Tottenham.

In fairness, this was a scoreline that flattered the visitors, especially as there was little between the two teams until Jermain Defoe slotted the ball through the legs of Brad Guzan to give his team the lead.
Villa had actually looked more threatening at this stage during what had been a tight encounter although the wind was knocked out of their sails moments later when Christian Benteke misplaced a pass after finding space in the Tottenham penalty area.
Spurs quickly countered and Gareth Bale collected the ball and danced around Guzan before doubling his team’s lead although the Welshman’s evening was to get even better as the match continued.
As Villa started to fall apart at the seams, Bale twice found space in the opposition penalty are and finished clinically on both occasions to leave the home side wondering how they had been on the receiving end of a 4-0 thumping.
While it’s back to the drawing board for Lambert and his young team, Gareth Bale can reflect on his first Premier League hat-trick and Villas-Boas will be very happy at the progress his team are making.
