Arsenal were “absolutely appalling” says Phil Thompson
Former Liverpool defender less than impressed with Arsenal performance

Former Anfield favourite and England international Phil Thompson spoke of Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Swansea City at the Emirates last night, calling the Gunners’ performance “absolutely appalling”.
Arsenal headed into last night’s encounter looking to haul themselves back from some dismal recent form having lost 3-2 to Manchester United last weekend, however Swansea City had other ideas at the Emirates Stadium and goals from Wayne Routledge and Ashley Williams condemned the Gunners to a third straight defeat
Thompson accepted that Arsenal were “alright’ before the interval, however he was scathing in his view of the second-half, telling Sky Sports:
“Was it as bad as the game at Old Trafford? Absolutely. They were alright in the first half – but only alright – and scored. They were dominating the game until – against the run of play – Routledge scored for Swansea.
“In the end, Swansea deserved this. Arsenal were poor. Do people go overboard about Arsenal? No they don’t. This was shocking.
“I can’t remember (Lukasz) Fabianski making any sort of save in the second half. This is at home. This is at the Emirates. This is them trying to go for the title. It was an absolutely appalling second-half performance.”
Arsenal need to put this poor performance firmly behind them this weekend as they prepare to face second-placed Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Saturday lunchtime.
