Arsenal need to beat Olympiacos by two clear goals to make last sixteen stage of Champions League

Arsenal have made hard work of their Champions League group stage, although victory in Greece in a fortnight’s time by a two-goal margin will see the Gunners go through to the final sixteen stage.

It’s been tough going for Arsene Wenger’s team who lost consecutive games against Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos before a home win over Bayern Munich threw the London team a lifeline.

Nevertheless, defeat at the Allianz Arena meant that there was no margin for error on Tuesday night and a comfortable 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb means there is a chance for Arsenal to go through.

Wenger is confident that his team can achieve the right result in Greece, with Arsenal bidding to qualify with Bayern.

“We wanted to come out of tonight with a chance to qualify,” Wenger said. “We needed to do the job and Bayern needed to do the job – we’ve both done it well. It gives us the chance. How big the chance is, I don’t know but I believe we can do it. Let’s make right what we didn’t do right until now. It will be tough but we have to believe we can do it and I believe we can do it.

“We just need to win,” Wenger said. “One goal might not be enough but if you lead 1-0, they will be in the situation where they can lose it and we will be in a situation where we can win it. So we have to go there and win. If you can win 1-0, you can win 2-0, as well. For us the task has one advantage – it’s very clear.”
