Arsenal draw Barcelona in Champions League last sixteen
Arsenal face Champions League favourites after an unkind draw which will see the Gunners host Barca first at the Emirates
December 14th, 2015
Arsenal scrambled through to the Champions League last sixteen stage after winning at Olympiakos last week, although the Gunners have been handed a nightmare draw.
Arsene Wenger’s team must face Barcelona over two legs and it’s the toughest possible opponents for the London side, with Barca current favourites to win the tournament looking typically dangerous.
Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar are a trio of attacking players that are from another planet, with Wenger hoping that his Arsenal team can reproduce the level of performance that saw them beat Bayern Munich at the group stage.
Chelsea have been paired against Paris Saint-Germain and it’s a tie that will make Jose Mourinho wince, with the French club knocking out the Blues last season, while Manchester City have a kinder draw after they were paired with Dynamo Kiev.
It means that City could be the only English team representing the Premier League at the last eight stage, with Arsenal and Chelsea outsiders to come through their respective ties.
The Gunners in particular will not be given much of a chance, although Wenger should have Alexis Sanchez back to face his former club and they at least have little to lose from trying to get past a team who have been in explosive form this term.
