Di Maria arrives at Old Trafford from Real Madrid for the princely sum of £60 million

Manchester United have broken the bank to sign Angel di Maria, with the club’s record signing having arrived in England on Tuesday where he will become acquainted with Louis van Gaal and his new team-mates.
Di Maria was a star performer for Real Madrid over the past few seasons although the winger has been deemed surplus to requirements following the arrival of James Rodriguez along with the fact that Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo can both operate from wide position.
The Argentine hasn’t been cheap and United’s £60 million outlay is by far the most that has even been spent on a single player, with Di Maria thought to be commanding a weekly salary of around £200,000 per week.
The player is expected to make his debut at Turf Moor on Saturday, with Di Maria having provided 17 assists in La Liga last term and certainly fits the bill when it comes to providing creativity to the forwards at the club including Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney.
Juventus’s Arturo Vidal, Milan’s Nigel de Jong and Ajax’s Daley Blind have all been touted as potential transfer targets who could yet arrive before the transfer window closes, although supporters continue to wonder whether defensive players will also be added to a team who look short at the back.
