Wolverhampton Wanderers v Aston Villa tips: Wolves to edge local derby
Wolves will claim local bragging rights in the West Midlands derby this weekend
January 12th, 2017
The rivalry is pretty intense between these two sides and an action-packed battle is very much on the cards when they renew their rivalry on Saturday evening at Molineux.
The Villans have been unimpressive since their fall from the Premier League last season and they sit in a mid-table position in the Championship following a rather lacklustre set of performances. Steve Bruce took over the reins in October with his first match in charge being a 1-1 stalemate with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Villa Park. Things started to improve with the following six league games returning two draws and four wins – the former against local rivals Birmingham City and Championship leaders Brighton & Hove Albion.
Things quickly settled down and since then Aston Villa have returned to their usual inconsistent selves with three defeats, three wins and a draw from their previous seven Championship outings and we’re less than optimistic about the visitors’ chances at Molineux this weekend. Wolverhampton Wanderers will be in high spirits following their 2-0 win over Stoke City in their recent FA Cup encounter and whilst the home side remain dangerously close to the Championship bottom three, manager Paul Clement will doubtless demand another attacking display when Villa come to town.
This is a difficult game to call although Wanderers enjoy the advantage of being at home and we believe that they will make this count at the weekend. The bookmakers share this view with most firms going 6/4 on a Wolves victory and we’ll be backing the home side at this solid if unspectacular price on Saturday afternoon.
