Group B is still extremely tight heading into the final round of fixtures, however Manchester United have hardly done themselves any favours with their rather negative approach of late. They may sit a single point behind group leaders Wolsburg, however they may still exit the competition should they fail to clinch the points in Germany tonight and PSV defeat CSKA Moscow in the other group match.

The Red Devils are not on good form at the moment, to say the least. Indeed, it can’t be easy viewing for a United support more used to attacking football, given that Van Gaal has adopted some very defensive tactics of late. Ok, so the side may sit a mere three points behind Premier League leaders Leicester City, however four 0-0 draws from the last six matches at Old Trafford don’t make for comfortable viewing and the United boss is receiving an ever growing amount of criticism.

With one of these goal-less draws being against PSV in the Champions League, the Red Devils now desperately need a win in Germany tonight to ensure that their European dreams remain alive. It could have been so much easier for them.

A win for Manchester United this evening isn’t beyond the realms of possibility by any means and there will doubtless be a large number of optimistic Red Devils fans eager to grab themselves 40/17 with 888sport for a Manchester United victory, however we feel that their form of late would make such a bet rather unwise. United may have beaten tonight’s opponents in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford earlier in the competition, but that was their one and only European game this term in which they have scored on more than one occasion and they have done very little in any competition since then.

Indeed, Van Gaal’s men have failed to win since mid-November with draws against PSV, Leicester and West Ham and just one goal scored in that time. Tonight’s hosts may not have won either of their last two outings, although their recent 6-0 hammering of Werder Bremen will still be very fresh in their minds and they will certainly be confident of easing past a Man United side who appear to be at a rather low ebb at present.

The Red Devils are somewhat average to be fair and Van Gaal will once again be adopting a defensive approach, although we believe that this will be his side’s undoing tonight. Wayne Rooney will play no part in the action, although whether or not this is really a negative is open to question. Marouane Fellaini will be his replacement, however he made little impact in the weekend clash with West Ham and Wolfsburg will be relishing the prospect of playing a United side which appears to have little going for it at the moment. Back Wolfsburg to win at a generous 11/8 with BetVictor.
