West Ham v Chelsea tips: Blues can continue blistering form
Chelsea head to the London Stadium for the very first time tonight and they will be out to emulate their weekend Premier League win
October 26th, 2016
Jose Mourinho’s first visit back to Stamford Bridge after leaving the Blues was something of a nightmare with his Manchester United side enduring a thorough hammering at the hands of a rampant Chelsea last weekend.
The home side were ruthless in their 4-0 victory over the Red Devils and they will be out to repeat this ruthlessness when they head to east London for tonight’s EFL Cup clash.
Indeed Antonio Conte’s men grabbed their fifth League Cup in 2015 and they will harbour ambitions of lifting the trophy for a sixth time in 2016/17 and thus become the second most successful side in this tournament.
A strong Chelsea starting eleven will take to the field at the London Stadium although Conte is likely to make a few changes to his team as he has done in the previous rounds with Kurt Zouma, John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, Oscar and Cesc Fabregas all looking set to return to the fray. Diego Costa could be replaced by Michy Batshuayi up front and the Hammers will have a job on their hands should they have hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the competition.
Indeed, West Ham recorded their third win of the season in unconvincing style at the weekend, leaving it late to seal the points against rock-bottom side Sunderland and they will need to raise their game a few notches should they wish to avoid a hammering this evening. The Hammers only just edged past Accrington Stanley in the previous round and Slaven Bilic will name his strongest possible line-up for what is the first cup game between these sides for twelve years.
Chelsea will be in very high spirits however following their weekend win and going on current form it is hard to see past an away win in east London tonight with Batshuayi scoring a third goal in this competition so far for the Blues.
