West Brom v Sunderland betting tips – Black Cats look the pick
Sunderland look a better prospect on paper than the Baggies ahead of Saturday’s clash at The Hawthorns
August 15th, 2014
It’s a worrying time for West Brom fans, with the Midlands club having clearly been thwarted in their attempts to sign a decent manager after sacking Steve Clarke and then deciding not to continue with Pepe Mel.
You can imagine that Allan Irvine was probably somewhere down the priority list when it came to hiring a new manager and the Scot’s arrival probably reflects the club’s lack of ambition.
The signing of Brown Ideye for £10 million is in stark contrast to the peanuts that have been shelled out elsewhere, with Craig Gardner and Joleon Lescott having arrived on free transfers.
Sunderland have just added Ashley Barnes to the squad and look odds-on to retain the services of Connor Wickham, while Steven Fletcher finally looks injury-free and ready to blast the Black Cats towards mid-table.
“He’s excited to join us and to start playing as soon as possible in the Premier League” said Poyet following the arrival of Barnes.
“Will is a player with something that we’ve been missing for a while – pace.
“He is very direct, and can create things with speed and by going past people. He can take you up the pitch on his own.
“Will can play anywhere across the front three and is a great addition for us.”
While at Brighton, Poyet paid £1m to sign Buckley from Watford and the wideman went on to score 19 goals in 96 outings for the Seagulls.
“I know Will well,” added Poyet. “From the first day he arrived at Brighton to the last day when we left, he kept improving and doing things better.
“He’s always confident he’ll create something for the team and will be very important for us.”
