West Brom v Southampton Tips – A tough three points for the Saints
The Saints will have enough to leave the Hawthorns with the points in the bag this weekend
September 11th, 2015
West Bromwich Albion and Southampton will both be looking to build on their first wins of the new campaign when they lock horns at the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.
The Baggies secured a narrow 1-0 victory away to Stoke City in their last outing prior to the international break, lifting them out of the bottom three and giving them renewed confidence following a poor start to the season during which they lost to Manchester City and Chelsea and were held to a goal-less draw at Watford.
Nevertheless, the main talking point at the Hawthorns has been the future of Saido Berahino, the striker playing no part in recent matches following the speculation that a move to Spurs was imminent. Berahino remains in the West Midlands however after the Baggies rejected numerous bids from the White Hart Lane outfit, although he has stated on Twitter that he has no intention of playing for West Brom again while Jeremy Peace is chairman.
The fact remains that Berahino’s services are very much required and it has been reported that he will be offered a new contract soon, while the addition of new signings Johnny Evans ( defender ) and Anders Lindegaard ( goalkeeper ) should assist a rearguard which has leaked six goals in the opening four Premier League matches.
Ronald Koeman’s Southampton finally got the season up and running with a 3-0 victory over 10-man Norwich City in their last outing, Graziano Pelle netting in that match. With the Italian international scoring for his country in their Euro 2016 qualifiers, we’re confident that he can make the net bulge in the West Midlands.
Southampton may not have been as clinical in defence as they were last season, but Koeman will be hopeful that new summer signing Virgil van Dijk can strengthen things in defence. Indeed, Southampton were cruising against the Canaries in their last outing before the international break and they can grab themselves a second successive win at the Hawthorns this weekend with a clean-sheet to boot.
