Cyprus are clearly not a household name in world football although the same applies to Wales and it’s a surprise that the bookies make the home side such a short price for this evening’s encounter at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Bet365 offer a best price 9/20 about a Welsh win and, while there was plenty to like about the commitment applied during Friday’s goalless draw against Bosnia, it was the visitors who had the better chances to win the game.

Group B looks to be massively wide open and the fact that the Cypriots won 2-1 in Bosnia recently suggests that this match definitely isn’t a home banker, especially when you consider Wales are missing so many players.

Take Gareth Bale out of the equation and the Welsh side looks very ordinary, with the visitors way too big at 8/1 with Ladbrokes to land the three points.

“There’s only one way we’re going to get the supporters back,” Coleman said after Friday’s draw. “People talk about being at the Millennium Stadium again and playing in front of 75,000 people.

“But we’ll get back to the Millennium Stadium when we’re winning games continuously at the right end of the campaign and at the right end of a group.

“What we’ve done in the last 12 to 18 months we’ve got to do in the next 12 to 18 months and if we do that we’ll be at the right end of the campaign.

“That’s when maybe 30,000 [stadium] is not big enough and that’s when you go back to the Millennium.

“Team spirit doesn’t win you games, but without it you don’t win games either. This will be a harder game [than Bosnia] because Cyprus are not going to come here and lie down for us.

“At times it might not be pretty but all we need is the result, we’ve got to get the three points and if we do that the draw on Friday is magnificent.”

Bet365 offer 7/2 about the draw and that looks infinitely more backable despite Cyprus’ 2-1 reverse at home to Israel on Friday where two first-half goals for the visitors were enough to get over the line.
