USA v Martinique Preview & Tips
The USA will aim to get their first CONCACAF Gold Cup points when they face Martinique on Thursday
July 12th, 2017
The USA may have dropped two points in their opening Gold Cup match but this won’t have dented confidence too much ahead of Thursday’s encounter with Martinique. The Americans took the lead in their clash with Panama through the first-half goalscoring exploits of Dom Dwyer, however Miguel Camargo salvaged a point for Panama by finding the net shortly after the break.
This may have been a disappointing result for the Stars and Stripes but they will taking the positives from that stalemate and will look to build on this when they take to the field this week. The USA head into this clash on the back of a nine-match unbeaten run and they will be confident of extending this by taking a maximum points haul on Thursday. Dom Dwyer has now scored twice in two international appearances and we’ll be backing him to make it three on the bounce by finding the net against Martinique.
The USA can’t afford any complacency to set in however with their opponents certainly capable of causing an upset. Martinique have won eight of their last ten outings and they enjoyed a 2-0 win over Nicaragua in their opening Gold Cup match. They will be underdogs in Thursday’s match but they can cause the Americans a few problems, that’s for certain.
