Tottenham v Fiorentina betting tips – Spurs looking to last sixteen place
Odds-on Spurs should silence Fiorentina at White Hart Lane on Thursday
February 23rd, 2016
Spurs waved goodbye to the FA Cup for another season when they were knocked out of the competition by Crystal Palace at the weekend, however they will be looking to make amends for this by sweeping past Fiorentina in this Europa League last-sixteen second-leg clash on Thursday evening.
Only last week, Tottenham were flying high and full of confidence following a winning run stretching back seven games. Since then however, things have taken a turn for the worse and they head into this European clash having failed to triumph in their last two outings.
Fiorentina held Pochettino’s side to a 1-1 draw in Italy, however worse was to come when Spurs were knocked out of the FA Cup at the fifth round stage courtesy of a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
“We were a little bit unlucky and we need to accept that,” the Spurs boss said following this defeat. “We need to be ready for Thursday, where we have another cup final. We have nothing to complain about. We create enough chances to win the game but it was our mistake [not taking those chances]. We take every game seriously and we play the way we need to play to win every game, but the next game is the most important now that Palace are through in the FA Cup.”
Next up is Fiorentina for the second leg of this last-sixteen clash and the hosts are undoubtedly in a very commanding position given that they held the Serie A side to a draw on their home turf. Tottenham went into the lead before the break with Nacer Chadli scoring from the penalty spot, however the hosts equalised through Federico Bernardeschi although Pochettino will be confident that his men can grab themselves a win this week. Spurs are 5/6 with William Hill to win in ninety minutes.
The hosts are clearly favourites to qualify at 4/9 with Ladbrokes and these odds are all worth taking, even if they won’t exactly give you a massive return. Spurs are very solid at White Hart lane this term, despite losing to the Eagles at the weekend and whilst Fiorentina did manage a decent enough win at Atalanta in their last outing, their away form has been less than impressive.
Obviously, we need to look at goalscorers and we won’t be looking past Harry Kane, the England international on decent form for his club. He represents excellent value at 11/10 with William Hill to score at some point and we’ll be backing him to find the back of the net in a Spurs win at 7/4 with Sky Bet.
