Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland tips: More woe for Black Cats
Back-to-back wins for Spurs when they entertain Sunderland on Sunday afternoon
September 15th, 2016
Spurs were on their way to Wembley last night although their visit to the national stadium ended in disappointment as they were beaten 2-1 in their opening Champions League game. Nevertheless their Premier League showing has been more impressive with eight points gained from an unbeaten run stretching back to the start of the season.
Pochettino’s men stormed to a 4-0 win away to Stoke City last weekend and few Sunderland fans will be expecting anything from Sunday’s match at White Hart Lane, given that the Black Cats have been utterly dreadful this season so far.
David Moyes was appointed as manager at the Stadium of Light, however he has thus far failed to deliver and with just a single point to their name from their opening four games, Sunderland sit at the foot of the Premier League table alongside fellow strugglers Stoke City.
Sunderland narrowly escaped relegation to the Championship at the end of 2015/16 however one feels that this was just delaying the inevitable and the bookies are of the opinion that the Black Cats will be amongst the relegation battlers at the business end of the campaign.
Things look set to get a lot tougher this weekend when they make the trip down to White Hart Lane. Spurs’ defeat to Monaco was a disappointment but one from which they will expect to bounce swiftly back from. Spurs haven’t managed back-to-back wins in the Premier League as yet this season but one would firmly expect them to do that on Sunday when they go head-to-head with an utterly woeful Sunderland side.
Bearing in mind that the Black Cats have been having few problems finding the net this season, we’ll be going for a Spurs win with both teams scoring at 2/1 with Betway. Jermaine Defoe has a habit of scoring for Sunderland away from home and with 10 goals in his previous 11 away games we’ll be expecting the visitors to get themselves onto the scoresheet this weekend.
Clearly this also means looking at Both Teams to Score at 21/20 with Bet365 and Over 2.5 goals at 4/6 with Sky Bet, while our goalscoring choices are dominated by Christian Eriksen, the Danish midfielder yet to score this season but finding the net in all but one of the last six games against the Black Cats. Back him to find the net on Sunday at 21/10 with Paddy Power.
