Tottenham Hotspur v Bayer Leverkusen tips: Back Wembley win for Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur face Bayer Leverkusen at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday evening
October 31st, 2016
Tottenham Hotspur are doing pretty well in this season’s Champions League with four points from their one win and one draw. They sit a single point adrift of group leaders Monaco and will be confident of sealing another three points at the national stadium on Wednesday evening.
These two sides have already met this season, the clash at the BayArena ending in a goal-less draw. Nevertheless the home side were kept at bay by the heroic exploits of keeper Hugo Lloris as well as a particularly solid Spurs rearguard.
Spurs are in the midst of a barren spell at the moment with their last win being the 2-0 victory over Manchester City at the beginning of October. They have since returned no less than three draws against the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Bayer Leverkusen and Bournemouth prior to their defeat to Liverpool in the EFL Cup.
The absence of star-player Harry Kane will certainly have been a blow for Spurs and it is unlikely that he will make a return in time for this midweek Champions League encounter. Indeed, boss Mauricio Pochettino has stated that the pressure needs to be away from the striker and instead called for more from the ‘second line’.
Bayer Leverkusen aren’t particularly enjoying the best of form at the moment with three defeats in their last five outings and we fancy Tottenham to dominate in what doesn’t look set to be a high scoring encounter. As such, we’ll be going for a Spurs win and under 2.5 goals which you can get at 15/4 with Betfair.
Son Heung-Min has been influential in Spurs’ best performances of the season and it is hardly a coincidence that Son’s dry spell has coincided with Tottenham’s drop in form. Son will certainly test the Germans to the limit as they struggle to contain attacks from wider positions and at 2/1 with BetVictor, he appears a steal on the anytime goalscorer market.
