Now here’s a Capital One Cup tie that’s certain to whet the appetite. This White Hart Lane clash will be the fourth time in the past ten years that the arch-rivals have clashed in this competition. Arsenal won the two-legged semi-final back in 2007 with Spurs exacting revenge the following season at the same stage with a 6-2 victory. Arsenal followed that with a 4-1 third round win in 2010 and the stage is very much set for another fiery encounter on Wednesday evening.

The Gunners warmed up for this match with a weekend derby against Chelsea, although Wenger’s side were sent back home with their tail between their legs as the Blues romped to a 2-0 win, their first victory of the season. Indeed, Wenger himself was less than happy about Diego Costa’s ‘wind-up’ tactics which directly led to the sending-off of Gabriel shortly before the interval.

The Blues took advantage of their numerical advantage on 52 minutes with a Kurt Zouma headed goal and the Gunners suffered more dismay when Santi Cazorla was handed a second yellow for a foul on Cesc Fabregas with Eden Hazard subsequently scoring Chelsea’s second.

Can Arsenal return to winning ways on Wednesday? They will be desperate to do so, given that they also suffered a surprise Champions League defeat to Dynamo Zagreb last week.

Spurs will be in better fettle heading into this match after recording their third successive victory against Crystal Palace at the weekend. A Son Heung-min goal secured the victory that lifts the north London side to ninth in the table and they will be confident of knocking the Gunners out of the tournament tomorrow.

Either way, this looks set to be a closely-fought encounter and although we feel that Arsenal should edge this clash, Spurs will certainly be the more confident, given that they haven’t been beaten since the first day of the season. Tough it may be and attractive it may not, however on this occasion we’ll be backing the hosts to keep the spoils at White Hart Lane.
