Switzerland v England tips – No Goalscorer makes appeal at 6/1
England will aim to keep things tight in Basel on Monday night
September 4th, 2014
Roy Hodgson’s team begin their Euro 2016 qualification campaign with a trip to St. Jakob-Park, with the England team looking to excite the fans again after a low turn-out for Wednesday’s friendly match against Norway.
A late Wayne Rooney penalty saw the Three Lions over the line at Wembley, although Roy Hodgson insisted it had been a solid enough performance achieved with a lot of potential first-team players on the sidelines.
“This team will score goals” said Hodgson.
“They’ll score goals. Rooney will score goals. Welbeck will score goals. [Daniel] Sturridge will score goals. [Raheem] Sterling will score goals. Switzerland will need to beat us.
“If anything, we might be Norway on Monday. We might be pushed back and won’t be able to attack and dominate for long periods, as we did tonight. I don’t know. But it might be the case. I don’t think the mindset of the Swiss team, playing us in Basel, will be the same as the mindset of the Norwegians today.”
These comments lead us to the conclusion that England would be happy to claim a point from their Euro 2016 opener against the top seeds in the group, with Switzerland giving a good account of themselves at the World Cup.
No Goalscorer can be backed at 6/1 with bet365 and considering that England only registered two shots on target during their friendly v Norway, we can’t expect many goals to be scored by the visitors.
However, they should be defensively sharp to keep the Swiss at bay, with William Hill going 7/4 about a home win and 13/8 that England claim the spoils.
The draw is an 11/5 chance although we are happy to bet on a low-scoring encounter to kick off England’s Euro qualifying.
