Sweden v Republic of Ireland tips on Monday 13 June
The Republic of Ireland have the team spirit and togetherness to nick this Group E clash at Euro 2016
June 13th, 2016
Sweden are favourites to win this Euro 2016 opener although the Scandinavian side shouldn’t be so short in the betting considering they also needed a play-off to reach the finals.
They’re also over-reliant on that one world-class player in the squad that is Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Martin O’Neill will be aware that keeping the future Manchester United player quiet is key in this game.
There are some good young players coming through in Sweden although not too many of them will be on the European stage this summer, with the experienced Sebastian Larsson and Kim Kallstrom likely to appear in midfield.
Defensively, the Swedes are a bit suspect and that’s especially the case against a Republic side who will look to profit from set pieces where they are a massive danger.
We know exactly what to expect from the Republic, with Shane Long ploughing a lone furrow in attack, while Jeff Hendrick, Wes Hoolahan and Jonathan Walters will look to support him while also remembering his defensive duties.
Robbie Brady is a master of dead-ball delivery and Ireland know how to scrap their way to the right result by getting their noses in front.
There were only two defeats during a qualifying campaign which included Germany and Poland in the group, with just seven goals conceded and we’re backing Zlatan to get snuffed out in this one.
