Sunderland v West Ham tips – Hammers can make their point
Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho can pack a punch at the Stadium of Light
December 11th, 2014
West Ham have overtaken Southampton as the surprise package of the Premier League this season, with Sam Allardyce going from Sack Race favourite to the next England manager in some people’s eyes.
The Hammers enjoyed a 3-1 win against Swansea last Sunday which saw the London side come from behind to triumph and they will be confident of their fourth away win of the season considering they have a dangerous strikeforce.
Andy Carroll scored a brace against the Swans and will be joined in attack by the tricky Sakho, with Sunderland unlikely to risk too much going forward against a team bidding to qualify for the Champions League this term.
Gus Poyet tends to adopt a safety-first approach against the so-called better teams and West Ham have to currently fall into that bracket, with the Black Cats having held Liverpool and Chelsea to goalless draws recently.
Indeed, five of the eight games at the Stadium of Light have finished all square and this looks to be heading the same way, with Sunderland not blessed with attacking options.
Three of the team’s last four games have finished 0-0 and this is the first of several winnable matches for the Black Cats who have Newcastle, Hull and Aston Villa on the horizon.
In the end, it should be a tight affair with both teams cancelling each other out although Sunderland might have to score to make their point.
