Sunderland v Tottenham Hotspur preview – Black Cats too big at 11/4
Gus Poyet’s team can beat an overrated Spurs team at the Stadium of Light
September 12th, 2014
Tottenham were all the rage after winning London derbies against West Ham and QPR although their defence was ruthlessly exposed by Liverpool a fortnight ago and they seem too short to win Saturday’s match.
Odds of 23/20 make little to no appeal about a Spurs win considering that Sunderland held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in their opening game and have a squad of players which could help the Wearside team to a top-half finish this term.
Jack Rodwell forms part of a midfield that also includes Adam Johnson and Lee Cattermole, with Steven Fletcher and Connor Wickham in an advanced position. It’s also worth noting that Sunderland traditionally perform better against the so-called better teams in the Premier League.
BetVictor offer odds of 11/4 about a win for the Black Cats and that looks too big as Mauricio Pochettino looks to implement his own ideas on this Tottenham squad, with Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela not yet catching fire.
Even so, the fact that Spurs won their first four matches in all competitions means that it’s a safer bet to back Sunderland on the Draw No Bet market rather than simply to win the game.
Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul are a fairly steady centre-half partnership, although this could be settled by the odd goal from Sunderland.
