Sunderland will be aiming for back-to-back victories when they welcome the Potters to the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Cats helped their cause no end by recording a surprise win at Selhurst Park last weekend, Jermaine Defoe scoring the only goal of the match to send his side up to 18th place in the Premier League table.

Indeed, since the arrival of Sam Allardyce at Sunderland, the side have managed six points from their last five outings to improve their survival chances, although the boss admits that there is still a huge amount of work still to be done should they wish to avoid the drop to the Championship at the end of the season.

Sunderland recorded their second clean-sheet of the campaign against the Eagles last weekend, however both of these shut-outs ended with wins for the Black Cats, something which eluded his predecessor Dick Advocaat.

Nevertheless, only Bournemouth have conceded more than Sunderland this term although their home record is slightly better with just eight goals slipped in their last six games at the Stadium of Light.

Defeats at home to Spurs, Norwich and Southampton have been the focal point to Sunderland’s poor opening to the season and they will certainly have their work cut-out against a Stoke City side who have been improving steadily since their slow start to the campaign. Sunderland to win is a best price of 23/10 with BetVictor.

Mark Hughes has been a man under pressure, although following a winless run stretching six matches, it would appear that a corner has been turned and the Potters now sit mid-table heading towards the Christmas period.

Indeed, a surge into a Europa League places is the eventual aim for Hughes’ side following a surge which saw them triumph against Aston Villa and Swansea City. Their charge was halted against Watford, although they have since won against Chelsea and Southampton and we feel that they should get the better of Sunderland this weekend.

The Potters have been one of the best travellers in the Premier League this season with just one defeat away from home and they will have plenty of confidence heading to Wearside, however this will be a close affair and with both sides likely to adopt a defence-minded strategy, we’ll be backing the match to end in a draw at 23/10 with BetVictor.
