Sunderland v Manchester United tips – Back Red Devils to seal the points
Louis van Gaal's side can clinch the points at the Stadium of Light
February 12th, 2016
Manchester United are continuing their quest for a position in the top four and they are certainly in with a shout should they continue performing the way they have been of late.
The Red Devils have been beaten just once in their last seven outings in the Premier League and the bookmakers have responded over the last few weeks by lengthening the odds on Louis Van Gaal being shown the door at Old Trafford.
United impressed with their 3-0 victory against Stoke City and followed this up with a tough draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, although LVG was less than impressed at the way his side conceded deep into injury time with Diego Costa salvaging a point for the home side.
“I think we played a superb game until the last quarter,” Van Gaal said to Sky Sports. “Then we didn’t keep the ball, or attack in the way I think we have to. Chelsea were pushing with long balls, more aggression, but you have to keep the ball and be composed when you defend, not kick the ball away without any meaning. We were the better team but, again, we didn’t win. It’s unbelievable. We don’t reward ourselves.”
Will United respond from this disappointment by putting the Black Cats to the sword in the North East this weekend? We believe that they will, given that Sunderland are having a hard time of things this season with just four points separating them from an improving Aston Villa who sit at the foot of the table.
Sam Allardyce’s men have a mere two wins under their belt from their last twelve top-flight games, these including eight defeats. If the Red Devils have ambitions of finishing in the top four, then they need to be winning these games and wee feel they will with relative ease.
Indeed, United start this clash as firm favourites at 4/5 with Paddy Power, although just a few weeks ago we would seriously have questioned the sanity of anyone backing the Old Trafford outfit at those odds. Things have certainly changed since then and it is clear that United have adopted a much more attack-minded approach and they are certainly creating for themselves many more chances, although they are still searching for those elusive back-to-back wins.
For those looking to give those Paddy Power prices a bump, we would recommend backing a Manchester United win with both teams scoring at 10/3 with Bet365. The Black Cats didn’t get find the net against Man City, however this was their only failure to get onto the scoresheet since they faced Liverpool at the Stadium of Light in December. They managed two goals at Anfield last weekend and we feel that they will give their long suffering supporters something to cheer about on Saturday afternoon.
As regards goalscorers, we’ll be backing captain Wayne Rooney to score anytime at 7/4 with Bet365. Rooney didn’t score against Chelsea at the weekend, however he has managed eight goals in his last eight outings and he is undoubtedly enjoying some much improved form than he did earlier in the season.
