This could prove to be a thoroughly entertaining encounter or it could go the way of a damp squib. One thing is for sure, both managers will be desperate to pick up points and ease the pressure on their shoulders and both will be equally confident of sealing the points at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Stoke City sit firmly at the foot of the Premier League table, their solitary point coming from their opening-day draw at Middlesbrough. Since then they have embarked upon defeat after defeat and their confidence will have been further dented by the manner in which they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Hull City on Wednesday evening, the Potters taking the lead on 24 minutes but falling to two second-half goals.

To say that they desperately need points would seem like a pretty obvious statement, however that is the case and the visit of West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon will present them with the perfect opportunity to do just that.

The Baggies have amassed seven points from their five Premier League games so far, however their form on the road hasn’t been too impressive with an opening-day 1-0 win at Crystal Palace followed by a defeat on penalties to League One outfit Northampton Town at Sixfields in the EFL Cup and a Premier League defeat at Bournemouth last weekend.

Nevertheless Tony Pulis’ men ended their three-game winless run in the Premier League with a hard-fought 4-2 victory at home to West Ham United at the weekend, the hosts enjoying a 4-0 lead until the Hammers fought back with two goals in a four-minute spell in the second half. Confidence will therefore have been boosted somewhat, however their form away from home continues to be a concern and we believe that a determined and desperate Stoke City will make them fight hard for a single point this weekend.
