Stoke City v Tottenham Hotspur tips – Spurs will stay in title race tonight
Spurs can close the gap on the Foxes this evening
April 18th, 2016
Spurs are still in hot pursuit of table-toppers Leicester City, however they are certain to have a battle on their hands when they travel to the Britannia Stadium tonight.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are the only real threat to Leicester City as we fast approach the business end of the campaign, however they really cannot afford to drop more points, especially since the Foxes are now eight points clear at the top of the table following their last-gasp equalizer against West Ham yesterday afternoon.
“It is very important we try to win all five games and wait and see if Leicester drop points,” Pochettino said.“It’s important to keep fighting. We have different objectives. The bigger objective is to win title, but then it is to play in the next Champions League. If it’s not possible to win title, it’s important to stay second. We have a big motivation to try to reduce the gap to Leicester and in the same way to keep our position.”
They will face a tough assignment tonight from a Potters side who have already held them to a draw at White Hart Lane this season. The hosts surrendered a two-goal lead on that occasion, however we believe that they will take the lead and maintain it when the sides meet this evening at the Potteries. Spurs have been strong away from home this term, while the Potters have been less than impressive at the Britannia Stadium and head into this clash on the back of some pretty dismal form. As such, we’ll be going for Spurs to win at odds of 8/11 with Paddy Power.
Those seeking something a little meatier should look at Betfair’s 3/1 for a Spurs win and both teams to score. The visitors have the Premier League’s best goals-against record away from White Hart Lane, however they have struggled to keep clean sheets on the road of late and with Stoke finding the net in each of the last eight outings, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them score in a losing effort tonight. Clearly, this would also mean backing Over 2.5 goals at odds of 9/10 with Winner.
Looking at goalscorers, we cannot look past scoring sensation Harry Kane, the Spurs star scoring eleven times in his last twelve appearances. The 22-year-old clearly relishes a big occasion and we expect him to deliver at the Britannia tonight. Harry Kane to score anytime is 6/5 with Betfred.
