Spurs v Monaco betting preview – Tottenham can enjoy perfect finish
Spurs will wrap up their Europa League group campaign in style this evening
December 10th, 2015
Tottenham Hotspur may have already secured for themselves a place in the last 32 of the Europa League, but there is no question about them taking their feet off the gas as they look to finish their group campaign in style with victory against Monaco at White Hart Lane tonight.
Tonight’s hosts stumbled somewhat in their group following a relatively routine win over Qarabag in their first outing, however they successfully bounced back from a subsequent away draw and defeat to beat Anderlecht and Qarabag, thus securing a place in the knockout stages of the tournament.
Will they manage three wins on the bounce in North London tonight? We feel that they can and it would be the perfect response following their 1-1 draw against West Brom at the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was naturally disappointed in seeing his side squander the lead in what was admittedly a closely-fought match, the boss saying: “I am more disappointed because we dropped two points. At the same time we are proud it is 14 games unbeaten. The conditions were difficult to play, it didn’t help us against a very good side. I feel very proud of the players, the effort was amazing but we feel a little bit disappointed because we dropped two points.”
Despite being held to a draw at the weekend, Spurs are on decent form of late with a solitary defeat in their last thirteen games over all competitions and as such, we’ll be backing Tottenham to win tonight at odds of 11/10 with Bet365, a rather generous price given Spurs’ success in the group stages.
Should this price not seem meaty enough for you, why not give it a boost by adding ‘both teams to score’? Ladbrokes offer 9/2 that both teams get onto the scoresheet in a Spurs win, this being an extremely tempting option. The hosts have managed just two clean sheets in the last fourteen matches and the visitors have scored in seventeen of their previous eighteen outings. As such, we firmly believe that Monaco will find the back of the net at some point this evening, although it won’t be sufficient to stop Tottenham from enjoying a 100% record at home in this competition.
With the goals expected to be flying in, we clearly need to be looking at goalscorers. Do we need to look far? Hardly, with Harry Kane returning to scoring form following a slow start to the season. Kane will pose a huge threat to the visitors’ defence and we’ll be backing him at generous odds of 4/3 at 888sport to score anytime tonight against Monaco.
