Spain v Slovakia Tips – La Furia Roja out for revenge
Spain will be looking to replace Slovakia at the top of Group C when they host the group leaders on Saturday evening.
September 3rd, 2015
Spain’s World Cup campaign last year was an unmitigated disaster, the side being knocked out of the tournament following emphatic defeats by the Netherlands and Chile at the group stage. This has undoubtedly had a severe knock-on effect with confidence currently at an all-time low.
Can it be just a few years ago that Spain were utterly dominant in world football? They have suffered four defeats in their last ten outings including a 2-1 loss to Slovakia in the Euro 2016 qualifiers and will therefore be seeking revenge when they once again clash with their main group rivals this weekend.
Indeed, Slovakia have been the surprise package in the group with six wins from their six games to date. The victory over Spain was without a doubt the key win so far, however they have also been winning sporadic friendlies with triumphs over the Czech Republic and Finland, therefore their confidence couldn’t be much higher.
Could it be that they could further enhance their reputation on the international scene by doing a double over current European champions Spain at odds of 14/1 with Coral?
Spain have admittedly been sound in defence in the qualifying rounds with four consecutive clean sheets and whilst this weekend’s opponents have been finding the back of the net with little difficulty, we can’t really see them scoring in what will prove to an extremely tough away fixture. Indeed, a Spain win-to-nil is our main recommendation at odds of 5/6 with Sky Bet.
Furthermore, Spain will undoubtedly be eager to avenge for their defeat to Slovakia in the reverse fixture last year and it will be left to the likes of Paco Alcacer and Alvaro Morato to deliver the goods for the hosts this weekend.
This is perhaps the weekend’s stand-out fixture and with Spain likely to prove a point, they will sweep past a Slovakia side which will nevertheless prove tough opposition for Del Bosque’s men.
