Southampton v West Bromwich Albion tips: Three points to remain on south coast
Southampton will be looking to bounce back from their thrashing to Spurs when they face the Baggies on Monday afternoon
December 30th, 2016
Southampton were enjoying a decent three-match unbeaten run as they looked forward to their clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening, however they were brought crashing back down to earth with a 4-1 hammering at St Mary’s. Virgil van Dijk opened the scoring for the home side in the second minute but Spurs responded with goals from Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min to seal the three points and thus keep themselves firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish.
Claude Puel’s men now need to bounce back from this disappointing result and regroup for Monday afternoon’s clash with West Bromwich Albion.
Whilst their Wednesday evening defeat was a disappointment, it was likely no more than a minor blip in their otherwise decent campaign to date and we’re of the opinion that they will make a swift recovery to seal the three points against the Baggies next week.
For their part, West Bromwich Albion have been pretty impressive so far this season – at least by their own standards – although their recent fortunes haven’t been quite so good with defeats in three of their previous four Premier League games. They nevertheless sit just a solitary point behind the Saints as we head towards Monday’s match and whilst their goal scoring record is less than impressive with just one in their last four outings, we believe that they will score against a Southampton outfit which have kept just two clean sheets in six games.
The home side should possess the edge in Monday evening’s match, however it should prove to be a tightly-fought affair which will almost certainly provide a few goals, therefore we recommend backing Southampton to win and both teams to score.
