The Southampton fans might just have a new hero. Having seen the likes of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers leave St Mary’s last summer, supporters might have expected a difficult campaign.

However, early signs are that Ronald Koeman will repeat Mauricio Pochettino and engineer a top-half finish, especially as the Saints have Graziano Pelle in their ranks, a player who has caught fire early in the season.

At the age of 29, Pelle finally made an international bow for Italy during the week and scored against Malta, having bagged four goals in a Southampton shirt this season and he will be hungry for more against Sunderland.

Ladbrokes offer a best price 8/13 about a home win at St Mary’s although that looks a touch skinny considering this game takes place after an international break, allied to the fact that Sunderland claimed a 3-1 win in their last game.

Indeed, BetVictor offer a very meaty 6/1 about the Black Cats winning Saturday’s match and while it might stretch things to back the visitors with any real conviction, this is a team that could be good for a point from the game.

Praise be to the Double Chance market where bet365 go 8/5 about the game ending all square or a Sunderland win, with the visitors having lost just one match all season and that was a surprise 1-0 reverse at Loftus Road.

However, whether Gus Poyet’s team can stop the mighty Pelle scoring is another matter and we’re happy to offset our Double Chance bet with an any time scorer bet on Italian’s newest pin-up boy.

Draw or Sunderland @ 8/5 with bet365
Graziano Pelle to score @ 13/10 with bet365
