The Red Devils squandered a one goal lead to ultimately lose 2-1 away to PSV Eindhoven in Tuesday evening’s Champions League clash and were served a double blow with Luke Shaw suffering a double leg fracture during the match.

Shaw will therefore be denied the opportunity to face his former employers this weekend and looks set to face a long absence for club and country with Marcus Rojo set to make a return to the fold.

Manchester United put their 2-1 defeat to Swansea City behind them as they stormed past Liverpool 3-1 in their last Premier League outing and boss Louis van Gaal will be calling for a similar performance as his men aim to keep the pressure on rivals Manchester City.

Southampton have stumbled through their first few games, following a failure to progress to the Europa League group stages with some underwhelming Premier League performances. Indeed, with just win under their belt so far, they sit mid-table with six points, however a win at home to United could perhaps give them the kick up the backside which they probably need.

They will nevertheless face a United side which have lost just once in the last twelve meetings between the sides and the visitors look a decent bet to extend that dominant record this weekend. Van Gaal’s forward line would appear to be taking shape and with keeper De Gea seemingly back in favour, the Dutchman will be aiming for an early goal and considering his options from that point on.

The hosts have yet to spring into life this season and will be caught unawares by a Red Devils side which will be looking to avenge their midweek disappointment by snatching three points on the south coast.
