Southampton v Crystal Palace tips: Goalfest at St Mary’s
We're expecting both nets to be bulging at St Mary's on Wednesday evening
September 20th, 2016
Crystal Palace’s best performance of the season so far saw them demolish Stoke City to the tune of 4-1 at Selhurst Park on Sunday and the Eagles have now enjoyed four games unbeaten in all competitions following their two opening Premier League defeats.
Manager Alan Pardew will be desperate to maintain that winning momentum in this midweek EFL Cup clash by sealing a win at St Mary’s although he will be required to ring a couple of changes in defence with James Tomkins picking up an injury which precludes him making an appearance in this match.
This could give Pardew’s Palace a few headaches when they go head-to-head with a Southampton side which are starting to look a formidable outfit this season following back-to-back wins over Sparta Prague on Thursday evening and Swansea City at the weekend.
The Saints scored the only goal of the game against the Swans on Saturday, however the home side dominated the match from the outset and Charlie Austin admitted that he should have grabbed himself a hat-trick in that match.
The hosts will certainly pose plenty of problems for a Crystal Palace side which will be lacking in defence on Wednesday evening and we could be witnessing something akin to a shoot-out at St Mary’s. Does Over 2.5 goals look like a banker? It does to us!
