Southampton v Bournemouth Tips – South Coast supremacy at stake
Can the Saints extend their unbeaten run to six games on Sunday afternoon?
October 30th, 2015
Southampton have won all but two of their opening ten outings in this season’s Premier League campaign and sit comfortably in eighth position following successive wins, although they are six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and are fully aware that maximum points is a must this weekend to maintain their hopes of a top-six finish.
Ronald Koeman’s side will certainly be in high spirits following their midweek Capital One Cup fourth-round victory over managers Aston Villa and will be confident of a win against a Bournemouth side who haven’t won this fixture for 28 years.
The Premier League honeymoon period for the Cherries has now evaporated and the harsh reality of a long battle against the drop is now setting in, a fact not helped by there numerous injury concerns in the camp and back-to-back 5-1 routs by Manchester City and Tottenham.
Indeed, the visitors have conceded at least two goals in all of their last four games on the road and possess the Premier League’s worst defensive record, although it must be remebrered that these two sides have come a long way of late, given that this corresponding fixture was played in League One just four short years ago.
Nevertheless, the home side have managed at least two goals in all but one of their last nine home Premier League games and on current form they should encounter little difficulty from a Cherries side who are suffering spiralling form. As such a home win looks like a banker with additional value up for grabs by backing the Saints on a handicap of minus one.
