Slovakia U21 v Sweden U21 Preview & Tips
Slovakia lock horns with Sweden in a must win match for both sides on Thursday evening.
June 21st, 2017
Group A remains extremely tight as things stand with England topping the table with four points to their name and tournament hosts Poland sitting rock-bottom with just a single point from their opening two matches. The middle two places are taken up by Slovakia on three points with Sweden one point behind and these sides lock horns on Thursday evening in a winner-takes-all affair.
Much may depend upon whether Poland manage a surprise victory over the Young Lions in Lublin, however this will be of little immediate consequence with both Slovakia and reigning champions Sweden desperate to grab a win at all costs. In all honesty we don’t fancy Sweden’s chances on this occasion given that their opening two games ended in draws, however should Hakan Ericson’s boys triumph this week then they could find themselves moving into the semi-finals of the competition.
Slovakia were undeniably impressive when going a goal up against England but goals for the Young Lions courtesy of Nathan Edmond and Alfie Mawson were enough to seal the win for the group leaders. This was a disappointing outcome for the Slovaks although they will be confident of bouncing back to claim all three points on Thursday evening.
There is still everything to play for in Group A and we expect an attacking display from both sides from the outset, however such actions will leave them exposed at the back, therefore we envisage the final outcome being a draw with both teams getting onto the scoresheet.
