Sheffield Wednesday v Huddersfield Town tips: Owls to dominate Yorkshire derby
Sheffield Wednesday welcome local rivals Huddersfield Town to Hillsborough for the Yorkshire derby on Saturday afternoon.
January 12th, 2017
Sheffield Wednesday were unlucky losers to Hull City in last season’s Championship play-off final with Hull’s Mohamed Diame scoring the only goal of the game at Wembley to break the hearts of Wednesday supporters and deny the club a return to the Premier League for the first time in sixteen years.
The Owls are pushing for promotion once again this season and there are many who firmly believe that this could be the season in which Carlos Carvalhal’s side finally make it to the top-flight. Wednesday have thus far enjoyed an excellent season and currently sit in sixth position in the Championship table, however they will be in for a stern challenge when Huddersfield Town make the short journey to Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers have been flying high in the Championship since the start of the season and sit level on 46 points with Reading, just six adrift of second-placed Newcastle United. They head into this weekend’s match on the back of an eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions with seventeen points secured from their previous seven Championship games. Will they be confident of securing another three points at Hillsborough this weekend? You bet they will.
Nevertheless the Terriers have been inconsistent away from home since the start of the campaign and whilst they have avoided defeat on the road since October when they suffered a 5-0 thrashing at Fulham, their away form makes us wary of backing them on Saturday afternoon. The last meeting between these sides ended in a 1-0 win for Sheffield Wednesday at the John Smith’s Stadium and with the Owls enjoying eight wins at Hillsborough this term, we’ll be going for a home win on Saturday afternoon with both teams scoring at odds of 5/4 with Betway.
