Sevilla v Shakhtar Donetsk tips – Back Spaniards to reach final
Can Sevilla move closer to a third consecutive Europa League title?
May 4th, 2016
There is little doubt that Sevilla have made this competition very much their own in recent years and the La Liga outfit will be confident of grabbing themselves a fifth Europa League title this time around.
The Spaniards won the tournament in 2006 and 2007, then added to this success by winning again in 2014 and 2015. They are now just one game away from appearing in the 2016 final and perhaps entering the record books as the first side to manage three consecutive titles since Bundesliga side Bayern Munich achieved it in the UEFA Cup between the years 1974-1976.
Sevilla certainly possess the advantage heading into this second-leg clash, having secured for themselves two valuable away goals in the 2-2 draw in Donetsk last week. The visitors to Ukraine took the lead through an early goal from Vitolo, however the tables were turned when goals from Marlos and Stepanenko gave Donetsk the lead. A late penalty for Sevilla earned the side a draw and as such, they are very much in the driving seat for a place in the final.
We’re optimistic about their chances and so are the bookies. While they appear well placed to make it into the final, we’ll be backing them to achieve that in ninety minutes on Thursday at odds of 4/6 with Coral. Indeed, Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid have all been on the receiving end of defeats at Sevilla’s Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and this serves to remind just how strong the side are on home turf.
With a strong attacking line-up at Sevilla’s disposal, we’re somewhat spoilt for choice on the Anytime Goalscorer market. Nevertheless, with French player Kevin Gameiro scoring seven times in his last eight games, we’ll be backing him to find the net on Thursday at Evens with Coral.
