Ross County v Hibernian Preview & Tips
An all-Premiership Scottish League Cup tie sees Ross County and Hibernian go head-to-head in Dingwall on Friday
July 20th, 2017
With two consecutive wins from their opening two Scottish League Cup matches, Highland side Ross County sit in pole position at the top of Group D as they head towards their penultimate group game. They followed up a 2-0 victory over Alloa Athletic by hammering Montrose to the tune of 6-0 and a win on Friday evening will send them ever closer to the knockout stage of the tournament.
Hibernian will have other ideas however and will be aiming for nothing less than three points following an excellent start to their cup campaign at the weekend. Neil Lennon’s men thrashed Montrose 4-0 and they will be eager to keep the momentum going on Friday with victory in the Highlands.
One thing is for certain, this is going to be a very closely-fought affair. Ross County may not have had things all their own way on home soil last season with seven defeats, however they limited their poor run to a short spell between January and March with the remainder of the season showing consistency in front of the home fans with points picked up against the likes of Hearts, Rangers and Aberdeen. As such a share of the spoils looks the most likely outcome in Friday’s meeting.
We don’t envisage too many goals in this clash however. Other cup matches have been pretty one-sided encounters which have seen the goals flowing in, however this is the only all-Premiership affair so far and with 21 of Ross County’s competitive fixtures last season producing under three goals apiece, we expect a dearth of goal-mouth action at Victoria Park on Friday evening.
